Western Blot’s debut album Muscle Memory dropped last week. Al Shipley has been been playing shows as Western Blot with Andy Shankman (Jumpcuts) and John German since 2012, and many years before that they began recording these songs with Mat Leffler-Schulman at Mobtown Studios and at his private studio back in the day in Washington DC. Al wrote and played everything on the album, and got help on the vocals from Andy, Kathleen Wilson (Thee Lexington Arrows), Scott Siskind (Vinny Vegas) and Shawna Potter (War On Women). The cover art is a sculpture by Donald Edwards, photographed by Al’s dear wife, Jennifer German Shipley.
It’s super amazing to see this record finally become a reality. The record started in my private studio over 10 years ago when we lived in Washington DC and we transferred everything over to the new studio here in Baltimore shortly after. It’s been a long time coming, but well worth it. We did some heavy experimentations on this album and I am proud of every moment. The distortions are epic. And yet no guitars were used at all. Ever. Enjoy!
