Sweepstakes is a trio from Baltimore. The band is lead by singer/guitarist Allyson Little. The first time I heard Allyson perform was at a microshow many years ago performing with the instrumental band We Used To Be Family. Ironically she was singing with the instrumental band. Everyone was drawn to her voice. And you’ll hear it with her new band here at the microshow that was recorded late in the summer to a very receptive crowd. We love the indie pop music Allyson and her band are putting out.
Sweepstakes joins us in the studio for a Microshow (August 12, 2015).
The band covers ground from catchy and energetic party songs to more reverent and emotional tones with experimental structures. A consistent driving force throughout the band is the songwriting and corresponding deep crooning vocals of frontwoman/guitarist, Allyson Little. While the lyrics explore levels of heartbreak and seductive entanglement, the instrumentation relieves some of the weight, making way for danceable music, no matter the weather.
The band has released a few singles and a full-length on Friends Records. Be sure to pick up a copy on bandcamp.
