Super City Super City

I’ve been working with Greg Wellham for years now with his band Monteclair. And when he came to me last fall talking about a new project that he was putting together with guitarist Dan Ryan, my ears were open and ready to hear more. They both are rather technically minded as far as musicians go. Together with Brian Brunsman on bass, Mike Gambone on drums, & Jon Birkholz on keyboards, they put together a band that, in all honesty, has only been playing a few months yet seems to have been around for years. Super City plays effortlessly and the recording proceeded the same way. Everyone was amazingly well-rehearsed and that comes through in the record. There is a sense of honesty and confidence and being comfortable in one’s own skin that extends through the musical notes to your ears.

Putting a label on these guys is hard. Their music has a beautiful aesthetic and general accessibility for lovers of indie music in the vein of Flaming Lips and Animal Collective. Yet Super City also offers some proggy guitar moments that those who appreciate a more technical style can dig.

Have a listen to a few songs and enjoy! And be sure to buy a copy here.
