Kaylyn Marie is a singer/songwriter from New York City. After 10 years of traipsing the east coast with her guitar yet without a record, she put her foot down, overcame self-doubt, and arrived at Mobtown to create a record. Kaylyn collaborated with her best pal Simon Pyles (Lindsay Dunphy) to work with her on her debut record Where I Need. Together, Simon and Kaylyn worked alongside the talents of Jody Lewis (bass), Joe Weaver (electric guitar), Chris Pierorazio (drums), and Ed Tetreault (keys, lap steel) to supplement full band arrangements to a selected choice of her stripped down acoustic songs.
Last spring the record was recorded, engineered, and mixed by Mat Leffler-Schulman at Mobtown Studios. The record serves as a sampler of the singer/songwriter’s multi-genre potential ranging from southern rock to alternative indie pop to her roots in acoustic music.
Working with Kaylyn was exhilarating. Hearing the songs on the first day of recording which was so stripped down, with just vocals and acoustic guitar made it feel like this was going to be just another folk record. But day after day we added new layers with guitars, bass, piano, organ, tack piano, lap steel and harmony vocals. Kaylyn wasn’t ever afraid of making this the best record possible. This isn’t just a folk record. It’s an incredibly well crafted record with amazingly and impeccably arranged songs.
Kaylyn’s record was released on February 17th to a sold-out house at Joe’s Pub in New York City.
