From Baltimore With Love brings together twenty Baltimore bands and musicians to support the art and activist group FORCE: Upsetting Rape Culture. Embracing the theme of a summer road trip, 20 artists donated tracks to keep Force company on the road including Dan Deacon, Flock of Dimes, AK Slaughter, Soft Cat, Ami Dang, Abdu Ali, DDM and more. The mix is being released as a prize for The Monument Quilt Tour Kickstarter campaign.
From Baltimore with Love is a sampling of Force’s hometown Baltimore’s varied and vibrant music scene. For only $15, Kickstarter backers can enjoy the psych soul rock of Katrina Ford, feminist punk rock War on Women, cellist and political artist Paul Rucker, and composer and electronic musician Dan Deacon, to name a few. With an all around all star line up, the compilation spans the genres of hip hop, R&B, club, ambient, electronic, experimental, pop, punk and everything in-between.
While Baltimore is well-known for its home-grown musicians, it is also becoming well-known for its home-grown feminist activism. Force: Upsetting Rape Culture is mostly widely known for their viral panty prank where they pretended to be Victoria’s Secret promoting consent-themed slogans on panties and thongs or more recently when they tricked the internet into believing Playboy was promoting consensual sex to undergrads. They are currently raising funds via Kickstarter for a 10-city tour of the Monument Quilt.
